Bring only a small amount of same-day food aboard
On a multi-day charter, keep supplies that are not urgently needed in main luggage or at the accommodation, and put only the few foods definitely planned for the day in a closable container. A small quantity is easier to find and easier to assess at day’s end.
Storage needs vary by food, temperature and packaging. Follow package guidance and real conditions for items that require specific storage; if it is unclear whether food remains suitable, do not eat it.
Use a location that keeps travel safe
Containers should be stable and placed according to vehicle space and the driver's judgement, without rolling or obstructing belts and passages. Do not search the boot while moving or spread food bags over seats, footwells or door areas.
Wait until the vehicle is safely parked to distribute food. Whether children, older travellers or someone prone to motion sickness should eat then also depends on their condition and adult supervision.
Keep wrappers and crumbs in one place
Use one small sealable bag for that day's wrappers and tissues, then empty it at an appropriate waste point. This reduces odour, insect risk and crumbs left in seat gaps, and avoids everyone keeping rubbish separately.
Do not leave rubbish in the vehicle for long periods or discard it casually from a window or stop. Follow the waste rules at rest areas, attractions and accommodation.
Reset simply at the end of each day
Before leaving the vehicle, one adult can check the food bag, seating area and footwells and take away remaining food and rubbish. Tell the provider early about wet wipes, drink spills or a noticeable odour so they can be handled appropriately.
The aim is not to turn the car into storage. Cleanliness, ventilation and loading always remain secondary to driving safety, passenger comfort and provider rules.
