A fixed place is safer than putting it down for a moment

Choose a place known to both the traveller and companion, where the item will not slide away or be crushed by luggage, ideally with the usual protective case or pouch. A fixed place avoids searching across seat gaps, pockets and several bags.

Do not leave glasses or small devices by a door, underfoot, near moving seat parts or belt buckles, or where another person may move them casually. Vehicle layouts vary, so follow the driver's safe-placement guidance.

Check only after the stop

Before exiting, confirm whether the item is being worn or is in its fixed place; after boarding, confirm it is stored again. A parked, unhurried moment is much steadier than searching at the door while people are moving.

One companion can offer a reminder without repeated pressure. If the older traveller prefers self-management, the companion can simply help confirm the place and avoid an omission.

Follow the person's own charging and backup plan

If a device needs charging, cleaning or spare parts, prepare according to the product instructions and advice from a doctor or hearing professional, keeping these items separate from ordinary loose belongings. Do not handle small parts while moving or spread cables through an aisle.

For damage, clear discomfort or a sudden change in hearing or vision, seek suitable professional or on-site help first. This article does not provide device-operation or health assessment advice.

Carry only what is genuinely needed for the stop

Before a scenic area, restaurant or toilet break, decide whether the item is worn, in the fixed day pouch or in the vehicle's designated place; it is enough that the companion knows the decision, rather than everyone holding something.

Storage conditions and arrangements vary by place and day. Carrying valuable or necessary items should follow personal judgement, on-site rules and provider advice.
