Measure the finished package
A small craft item can become a much larger parcel after cushioning and an outer box are added. Several separate dried-fruit purchases can also accumulate into a full case. Ask for the final dimensions and weight before paying, then confirm the remaining vehicle space with the driver.
Reserve a defined amount of space, such as room inside a suitcase or a soft bag that can be secured, rather than assuming there is always a little more room. A space allowance is not permission to add unlimited weight, and an empty position is not automatically suitable for cargo.
Pack for the item's needs without using passengers as restraints
Separate dry foods from potential leaks, protect crushable items from heavy cases and use suitable cushioning for fragile crafts. Ask the seller about any storage conditions. Do not assume the car temperature or hotel facilities will satisfy them; an unmanageable storage requirement should affect the purchase decision.
A visible gap in the boot may not offer a secure way to restrain a parcel. Ask the driver to confirm placement and fastening. Avoid obstructing visibility, doors, aisles or passenger restraints. Having someone hold a large package for the entire drive is not a substitute for proper stowage.
Decide on carrying or shipping before paying
For onward transport, check the actual carrier's current limits for number of items, size, weight and restricted goods. This article gives no current airline or railway allowance. Goods containing liquids, batteries, blade-shaped components or animal and plant materials deserve a specific check rather than reliance on a seller's reassurance.
For shipping, confirm acceptance, packaging, address coverage and cost with the carrier, and obtain tracking evidence. Your tour schedule cannot guarantee a delivery time. Unconfirmed plans to ship something on the final day do not solve today's luggage-space problem.
Count purchases each evening and organize the final handover
Keep a short list of ownership, packaging, storage position and whether each item will be carried or shipped. Mark shared outer cartons without exposing sensitive details so that they are not taken to the wrong room. Changing shopping-bag counts should not obscure the original luggage inventory.
Before returning the vehicle, check original luggage and purchases separately. Look through seat storage and the luggage area, and have owners confirm receipt. Find a safe place for fragile items before handing them over. Avoid leaving repacking until the roadside rush for a flight or train.
