Guangdong pilot hospitals sharpen international patient access and direct-billing support
An official Guangzhou report says 25 Guangdong pilot hospitals are improving international services through dedicated centers, wider specialty access and more direct-payment arrangements with insurers.

Guangzhou International reported on April 8 that Guangdong had officially designated 25 pilot hospitals for international medical services at the end of March 2026, reflecting a broader push to improve patient experience for visitors from overseas.
The official report highlighted measures such as dedicated international centers, broader access to specialties including ophthalmology, pediatrics, endoscopy, health checkups and vaccinations, and direct-payment agreements with more than 10 domestic and international insurers at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University.
For medical-travel planning, the practical takeaway is that Guangdong is building more structured access pathways rather than offering one uniform package across the province. Patients should still confirm language support, payment rules, appointment timing and the scope of any specific service directly with the licensed hospital they plan to visit.
